"Used to meet to bring in the New Year at cross years ago nobody does that now "

"It was a beautiful point of interest in the High street and we did use it as a reference point when giving people directions. "

"It’s a nice point in the town and does look a sorry state currently. However the town centre itself is desperate for an overha and to return it to a great city centre. They also need to look at free parking to bring in people, fill empty shops, offer support for pop ups and short term stands throughout the high street to increase trade. There has to be something to come in for and currently there is little. Also need to address the antisocial behaviour around bus station and tesco car park "

"This has been a big part of me growing up , many happy memories
Thought out the new and a well known meeting place New Year’s Eve , New Year’s Day.
Maybe better to get the people who caused the damage to pay! "
Meeting Place & Community
"It’s a town landmark! People always went there at New Year and I have great memories of this! "
Meeting Place & Community
"I don't think it has much meaning to many people today and I'd like to see the existing remains augmented with something new rather than it being restored to what it was. Top it off with something that has more relevance today."
Meeting Place & Community
"It’s an important local landmark and when you’re giving people directions using the cross as a way finding tool, it’s so embarrassing to be referring to it as a cross when it’s just a stone pillar "
Meeting Place & Community
"Wouldn't say family but as a community with a recent city title along with glasgow and Edinburgh the mercat cross should be reinstated to boost tourism"
