Council Neglect & Action
"I’m not originally from Dunfermline but feel that as a tourist destination, and Scotlands newest city, it is really important that our heritage is maintained. If the Council can find money to create a concrete square in the gap site they should be ensuring that historic landmarks are looked after as a priority "

"An important symbol for our High Street and while many may have fond memories ie - a meeting place, for me it’s more historic dating back centuries about our past significance as a City with a Royal Palace and a place of real importance."

Heritage & History
"It’s part of Dunfermline’s heritage and history and should be kept in good repair. Our grandsons miss seeing it there. "

Meeting Place & Community
"It’s a nice point in the town and does look a sorry state currently. However the town centre itself is desperate for an overha and to return it to a great city centre. They also need to look at free parking to bring in people, fill empty shops, offer support for pop ups and short term stands throughout the high street to increase trade. There has to be something to come in for and currently there is little. Also need to address the antisocial behaviour around bus station and tesco car park "
Dunfermline resident, 45 - 54
General Importance
"Grown up with the Mercat Cross always being part of the town. Now in my 70s find it so disappointing that its still not repaired."
Dunfermline resident, 65 and over
Council Neglect & Action
"Heritage should be part of the social fabric of any town. Fife Council need to budget properly as council tax is higher. Than it’s ever been. "
